Tuition Incentive Program - TIP

The Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) in Michigan is a financial aid program that helps low-income students pay for college by covering tuition and fees for community college (Phase I) and then providing additional aid for a four-year degree (Phase II). Eligibility is based on having Medicaid for 24 months in a 36-month period during middle or high school, and students must complete the FAFSA, enroll at a participating school within four years of graduating high school, and maintain satisfactory academic progress.

How it works (Michigan-specific)
Eligibility: You must have received Medicaid for at least 24 months within a 36-month span between ages 9 and high school graduation, and be a Michigan resident.

Phase I (Community College): Covers tuition and mandatory fees for up to 80 credits for an associate degree or certificate at a participating Michigan college, often at the in-district rate.

Phase II (4-Year College): After earning an associate degree or 56 transferable credits, it provides up to $2,000 (max $500/semester) for a bachelor's degree at an in-state Michigan university.

Key Requirements: File the FAFSA, enroll at least half-time, maintain good grades (Satisfactory Academic Progress), and start using the benefit within four years of graduating high school.
